NATIONAL SHOPFITTING AWARD FOR YOUNG APPRENTICE |
| Detail |
The cream of the UK Shopfitting Industry gathered at the annual luncheon of the National Association of Shopfitters to honour Matthew Goater from Hadley Shopfitters of Portsmouth on the 10th February 2010. Matthew a second year apprentice with Hadley Shopfitters battled against other second year apprentices nationally to take first prize in the NAS Apprentice Design Prize Award for 2009.
Matthew won the Award against stiff competition from other second year apprentices in the shopfitting and interior contracting sector across the country. Matthew said “I couldn’t believe that I had won. I found the task challenging and the brief was to design and manufacture a mantel clock incorporating some most complicated shapes and joints I’ve learned in my time working on the job and studying at College.” Matthew also received high praise from the judges for the quality of the work and well thought-out design.
The National Award, which consists of a trophy, certificate and cash prize, was presented by Nayna McIntosh, Director for Store Marketing and Design at Marks and Spencer and Brendan Turtle, NAS President, at the Association’s Annual Luncheon. The prestigious annual Award is presented to second year shopfitting apprentices showing the most originality and skill in the design and construction of the project. This year, the Award has again been generously supported by the industries Sector Skills Council ConstructionSkills and Britain's premier supplier of quality hardwoods, John Boddy Timber Ltd of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.
