The legendary Midland Bank by Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens has been given new life as a luxury hotel and members’ club.
‘The Ned’ has had a stunning redesign and fit-out by Soho House & Co, which retains the striking Art Deco features of the original interior while adding complementary modern touches.
The heritage building has some stunning spaces, including a 3,000sqm banking hall, which now plays host to eight exciting restaurants divided by glistening green verdite columns that enhance the 1920s décor.
The vaults now contain cocktail bars, while other areas of the former bank are now home to bedrooms and a social and fitness club.
Walnut panelling, patterned fabrics, and chandeliers are a significant motif in this fit-out, with the developers drawing attention to the ‘vintage pieces, hand-knotted rugs and rainforest showers’ in each of the 252 bedrooms.
