History
The PAS 82 Shopfitting Management Standard was initially developed in 2005 as a bespoke project because it was felt to be no longer appropriate that simple membership of the National Association of Shopfitters implied excellence. The journey moved forward in 2010 with third party accreditation (EMS) as paper proof that members could do what they said.

This accreditation process therefore outsourced the annual vetting of NAS Members and its approved list of shopfitters and fit out contractors. Further interest has been shown by other stakeholders who have a vested interest in shopfitting and fit out contracting and have therefore identified the potential for a standardised system that can be offered to the whole of the NAS Membership.

The PAS 82 Shopfitting Management Standard started with two main aims:

    • To improve health and safety standards across the shopfitting and interior contracting sector for which the NAS is the only voice

    • To reduce duplicated safety applications for all stakeholder within the sector

    • PAS 82 Benefits:

      • For an NAS Member participating in the PAS 82 scheme helps both suppliers and buyers.
      • Suppliers show compliance with important parts of health and safety law (the core criteria described in the CDM regulations).
      • On achieving compliance a supplier is recognized as having achieved a recognized standard and also the question of mutual recognition because this scheme is recognized by “Safety Schemes in Procurement” (SSIP)
      • Inconsistencies are reduced where some suppliers may be judged compliant by one buyer but not another.
      • PAS 82 gives guidance on any weaknesses in a supplier's safety management, including how they can improve.
      • Being a PAS 82 Shopfitter saves both time and resources
