Amy
'I enjoyed woodwork at school, so shopfitting
was the ideal career for me. Being the only girl at work hasn’t
made things difficult. Everyone accepts me as a craftsperson
because of the quality of my work. I definitely made the right
choice!'
Amy did a two year course at college in furniture
making after leaving school. After that, she found a job with
a shopfitting company. They persuaded her to do a further
day-release course in shopfitting, which allowed her to build
on her previous skills and turned out to be an excellent preparation
for her everyday work.

Richard
'Being a trainee shopfitter has given me the chance to learn
a highly skilled trade and I get to travel to sites
all over the country. Fashions in shop design are constantly
changing, so there’s always something new to learn
and you never get bored.'
Richard started training last year with a
specialist shopfitting company. He chose to train as a shopfitting
fixer, as he likes to travel and see the results of his
work. He has already worked on many different projects,
fixing reception desks, counters, rails, shelving and seating
for all kinds of different buildings.
