Level 2 Solid Surfaces NVQ

This course is provided by our Approved Training Provider, Didac Ltd.

This qualification is aimed at those who install Solid Surfaces on domestic locations and sites or those who fabricate Solid Surfaces.

Solid Surface is a man-made material usually composed of a combination of Alumina Trihydrate (ATH), acrylic, epoxy or polyester resins and pigments. It is most frequently used for seamless countertop installations. It can mimic the appearance of granite, marble, stone, and other naturally occurring materials, and can be joined nearly invisibly by a trained craftsman.

Typically manufactured in sheet form for fabrication into finished countertops, Solid Surface can also be cast into a variety of shapes, including sinks, shower pans and bathtubs. It works like wood and requires skills and tools aligned to that of furniture and joinery.

As a Solid Surfaces Installer or Fabricator, you will learn a number of skills, depending upon the type of business you are working in. Staff can make decisions such as the type of material needed to make and install surfaces, the ability to follow technical drawings, and the skills to work out amount of materials needed.

You will learn how to install or fabricate components, learn about materials, and how to set up and operate machinery, tools and equipment.

Assessment is carried out using E-Portfolio with evidence from the workplace.
